IRS Debuts New Features for Online Taxpayer Tool

Posted on August 8, 2017 by Trinity Tax Consultants Inc • 0 Comments

IRS Debuts New Features for Online Taxpayer ToolThe Internal Revenue Service wants to make it easier for taxpayers to access all of their tax information. Recently, the IRS added a bunch of new features to its online tax account tool that will make it simpler for taxpayers and tax preparers to find and use the information tied to their accounts.

The IRS originally introduced the online tax account tool to taxpayers back in December 2016. The tool allowed people to look up some of their most basic information, including the total balance currently due on their taxes and the payment options offered by the IRS. But the IRS has since added even more useful features to its online service.

Taxpayers can now pull up information on the last 18 months of their tax payment history and check out payoff amounts for taxes due. They can also find online transcripts for Form 1040-series tax returns and provide the IRS with feedback on the tool. The IRS is constantly looking for ways to improve their online service over time, and this feedback will go a long way towards helping them to that end.

There are some taxpayers who might not feel comfortable with the idea of accessing their important tax-related information online due to identity theft concerns, but the IRS has also worked to make the tool as safe as possible. In order to access the service, taxpayers will need to authenticate their identity during a two-step process, and then use a security code sent via text message when logging in with a username and password in the future.
